LOWTHER CASTLE & GARDENS

Lowther Castle & Gardens is a lovely day out for all ages and groups. You can explore the ruins, take a walk in the vast gardens and grab something to eat in the cafe. The 'Lost Castle' is one of the UK's largest adventure playgrounds perfect for families.

HAWES AND WENSLEYDALE CREAMERY

If you fancy a scenic drive, Hawes is the perfect little market town. Boasting lovely cafe's, gift shops and Wensleydale Creamery home of the famous crumbly Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese 
and a popular Visitor Centre.

PRIVATE FISHING

The shepods are situated close to the river scandal with a mile of private fishing available to take advantage of during your stay. Bring your own fishing equipment and keep your eye out for brown trout.

SMARDALE VIADUCT & NATURE RESERVE 

Situated 1.4 miles from the shepods is Smardale Viaduct and Nature reserve. The reserve provides 6km/3.5 miles of level walking and connects with a number of public footpaths. The main track from Smardale car park to Smardale Gill viaduct (1.5miles) has an all-weather surface and is level, making it suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The rest of the track to Newbiggin-on- Lune (3.5miles) is level and easy walking. Smardale nature reserve is home to the Scotch Argus Butterfly and the famous red squirrel. This walk is perfect for spotting wildlife and nature.
